The activities of the Scientific Operation “Transport in Complex Media” focus on the study of multiphase flow phenomena, heat transfer, light and heat transport at different space and time scales. Its research objectives are to characterize complex media such as biological media, nanostructured and porous materials. The Operation has diversified and complementary skills combining theory, modeling, numerical simulation and experimentation. These recognize expertises are related to scientific, technological and societal issues in the fields of energy and health.

Skills

  • Modeling and numerical simulation of transport phenomena (light, electrons, phonons)
  • Modeling and numerical simulation of heat transfer at multiple scales (nano, micro, meso and macroscopic)
  • Modeling multiphase and reactive flows in porous media
  • Skills in deterministic numerical methods (Finite Volumes) and statistics methods (Monte Carlo) for the solution of transport equations (Radiative Transfer, Boltzmann,…). Ab-initio calculation and molecular dynamics
  • Inverse methods (imaging)
  • Experimental techniques (Time Frequency Thermo Reflectance, Scanning Thermal Microscopy)
