The second framework contract between the University of Lorraine and the CSTB started on October 1, 2020. This collaboration involves LEMTA’s Feux team for the development of research and covers the funding of 3 theses and 2 post-doctorates for 5 years.
The aim of this agreement is to develop joint research work in the field of fires ranging from the thermal degradation of materials to techniques for extinguishing and securing property and people. The idea is to create a laboratory “without walls” between the two teams to share ideas and metrology but also to carry out fire tests on buildings. Numerous fire-related themes are explored, such as :
– the contribution of wood to the development of fire,
– active fire protection,
– extinguishing systems
– thermal metrology
These topics may evolve according to priorities and current events, but they will mainly focus on the fire fighting and extinguishing phase.
The first framework agreement has already made it possible to better understand the dynamics of smoke development and propagation within a building and to analyse the fire behaviour of wooden buildings.
